DR. POPPER ORGANIZED INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE EFFECTS OF NOISE ON AQUATIC LIFE

Dr. Arthur Popper, co-director of CCEBH, co-organized a major international conference on the Effects of noise on aquatic life that was held in August 2010 Cork, Ireland. Co-organizer of the meeting with Professor Anthony Hawkins of Loughine Ltd, Aberdeen, Scotland The meeting, which was attended by over 250 people from over 22 countries and every continent but Antarctica, brought together scientists, regulators, and people from industry and environmental groups to consider the growing issues resulting from human-generated sounds in the oceans. These sounds are produced by shipping, construction, and other sources. Concern is particularly growing since much sound is produced during construction of off-shore wind farms. Also in attendance from CCEBH were Dr. Robert Dooling, Dr. Brandon Casper, and Ms. Sara Therrien (CEBH trainee).
